Sustainability Success: Manor Hall Academy Trust’s Carbon Footprint Hits Record Low

Since 2019, the Trust has reduced its carbon intensity from 1.02 tonnes of CO₂e per pupil to just 0.57 tonnes in 2024–25 — a 44% reduction. This represents a steady, long-term commitment to greener, more efficient schools across the Trust.
Academic YearPupilsIntensity Ratio (tCO₂e/pupil) 2019–20 | 656 | 1.02
2020–21 | 1,024 | 0.898
2021–22 | 1,078 | 1.080

2023–24 | 1,331 | 0.64
2024–25 | 1,415 | 0.57
The latest reduction represents a 10% improvement on last year’s figures and reflects targeted estate improvements and a strong sustainability culture across schools.
Key actions include:
- Energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades
- Roof, window, and door replacements to improve insulation
- Hybrid working and travel efficiencies
- Completion of decarbonisation plans for every school
- Sustainability Leads appointed in all schools to champion local green initiatives
With future projects including solar power installations and further building improvements, the Trust remains on track to meet its ambition of reaching 0.4 tonnes per pupil by 2027.
Chief Operations Officer, Kate Staples, commented:
“This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the shared commitment across our schools. Every small action — from energy awareness to smarter travel — is helping us create a more sustainable future for our pupils.”
