Becoming a Trustee means joining a committed team that works together to make sure every child has the chance to belong, learn and grow. It’s a rewarding role where you can make a real difference across our Trust — not just in one school, but across our communities.
What Does a Trustee Do?
Trustees help to run the Trust at a strategic level. They don’t manage schools day‑to‑day — instead, they:
- Set the overall direction of the Trust
- Make sure money is spent wisely and lawfully
- Hold leaders to account for school performance
- Make sure the Trust is safe, ethical and well‑governed
Your input helps improve education and life chances for children across our schools.
Who Can Become a Trustee?
You don’t need to work in education.
We are looking for people who care about children and want to contribute their skills and experience. We particularly welcome people who bring:
- Experience in leadership, finance, governance or managing organisations
- Good judgment and the ability to think strategically
- A willingness to ask questions and take part in discussions
- Time, commitment, and enthusiasm
- Different perspectives make our Board stronger.
What’s Involved?
As a Trustee, you will need to:
- Attend Board and committee meetings
- Read papers and prepare in advance
- Visit schools occasionally
- Act professionally, respectfully and confidentially
- Follow our Code of Conduct
All Trustees must complete a DBS check as part of our safer recruitment process.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Working with other Trustees, you will help to:
- Make sure the Trust meets legal and financial requirements
- Approve budgets and monitor spending
- Support and challenge senior leaders
- Monitor school performance and outcomes
- Take part in key decisions affecting the Trust
- Training and support are provided, so you’re not expected to know everything from day one.
