Trustees
Our Trustees play a pivotal role within our Trust, and their authority is granted by the Members who entrust them with significant responsibilities.
One of the primary responsibilities of our Trustees is to control and oversee the management and operation of the Trust. They work diligently to ensure that the Trust remains solvent, efficiently run, and that all academies within the Trust are delivering the required educational standards.
In their capacity as Trustees, they also take on the essential task of overseeing the budget of each Academy School. By closely monitoring financial matters, they ensure that resources are allocated optimally to support the educational needs of our students.
We firmly believe in the importance of an effective governance model that allows Members to hold Trustees accountable. To achieve this, a degree of separation is necessary between those serving as trustees and those serving as Members. As such, we have a Director who acts as a bridge between the Members and the Board of Trustees, fostering clear communication and collaboration.
Furthermore, we also maintain separation between our Trustees and the members of the LACs in terms of accountability. This ensures that there is clarity in the roles and responsibilities of each group, leading to a more efficient and transparent governance structure.
Through the dedicated efforts of our Trustees, working in tandem with Members and LACs, we remain committed to providing a nurturing and conducive educational environment for our students while upholding the highest standards of governance and accountability.

In our Trust, Members hold a significant and essential role within the governance structure.
When the Trust was established, the Members are the initial subscribers to the Trust's memorandum of association. They possess a comprehensive overview of the governance arrangements within the Trust. I joined Rocklands School as Deputy Headteacher in September 2022, following 13 years of experience in mainstream education. However, my true passion lies with supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs, ensuring every child is empowered to become the best version of themselves and prepared for life beyond school which led me Rocklands.
I currently have 13 years experience in school leadership at varying levels and have enjoyed completing qualifications such as the NPQLPM & NPQH which have been instrumental in fostering my coaching, leadership and management skills.
I am committed to research-informed practice, with particular interests in Mathematics, Curriculum Design, Personal Development, Executive Functioning, and Metacognition. My focus is on establishing a collaborative and holistic curriculum that fosters independence, resilience, and lifelong learning.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two fabulous children. Together, we love swimming and playing family games. I also enjoy getting out and about running with friends when I get the opportunity – my biggest running achievement to date has been a 10 mile run from Lichfield Cathedral to Tamworth Castle.
I joined the Trust in 2016 as a finance assistant when there were just 2 schools. During this time, I have worked with and supported new schools, adapted processes and procedures and helped to formulate the central services function. My main day to day role includes overseeing the financial functions of the Trust. These include supporting existing schools and new schools joining the Trust; with functions such as budgeting, maximizing income, expenditure, payroll and reporting to ensure best value and financial compliance. As the Trust has grown I have progressed to Trust Finance Manager where we now have a team of 4 Finance Support Officers, who support each school in their day-to day finance functions. Outside of work, I enjoy going for long walks with my dogs.

Clare Tether
Finance Officer
I joined MHAT central team in November 2019, as a Finance Assistant. I have a background in business and compliance and came from a charity as their finance administrator. I am continually developing my knowledge, experiences and sharing good practices and skills across the growing Multi Academy Trust and this is something that I am very proud to be part of. My hobbies include many crafts and spending time with my family.

Cheryl Huxley
Finance Officer
I joined Manor Hall Academy Trust Central Team in August 2021. I currently help to support our schools in my role as Finance Officer, after having a career in banking for over thirty years.
I am proud to be part of the central team, helping our schools to make a difference to students lives.
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, travelling and spending time with my family.
I joined the Manor Hall Academy Central Team in September 2022, my previous role was at Staffordshire Police HQ working in the Facilities Team for 17 years.
My first position at the MHAT was a Finance Officer, and since joining my finance knowledge has grown with the support of the team and the management.
I now feel very lucky to work as a Estates, Health and Safety, Compliance Officer, I’m working for a Trust that I’m very proud to be part of and doing a job I love.
Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym, long walks and spending time with my family and friends
I joined Manor Hall Academy Trust in February 2020 as a Clerical Assistant at Merryfields School and transitioned to the Central team in April 2023. However, I remain a familiar face at Merryfields, regularly visiting and supporting school events. My previous experience includes working as a Service Administrator for Fact 22 at Cheshire East Children’s Services, as well as various support roles in the care sector, assisting young adults with special needs, the elderly, and individuals with lifelong mental health challenges.
As Operations Officer, I support the leadership team with business operations, compliance, and HR functions across the Trust. I am also the SEND Link Governor at my son’s school, where I advocate for children with special educational needs, a cause especially close to my heart as a mum to a child with SEN.
Outside of work, I’m a homebird at heart, finding joy in spending time with my sons, my little dog, Ted, and close friends, appreciating the simple pleasures away from the hustle and bustle of life.
I have worked for Manor Hall Trust for over four years. My role is that of Head of Governance which is an interesting and varied role from working with Trustees to proving guidance and support to our schools. It is a role that inspires me, challenges me but also rewards me as I know that I am supporting our schools, the central team, colleagues, and most importantly our pupils. Working for Manor Hall Trust is like being in a football team; we all want the same goal and work together and support each other to do this.
My day-to-day work can include visiting schools, preparing reports, producing high-quality minutes and working on areas of compliance. No two days are ever the same! It has been a lot to learn, but I now feel somewhat fluent in the language of education!
Outside of work, I like watching football either live or on television; I like my holidays and going out with family and friends. I also love looking after my cat, Freya.

Simon Bryan
Head of Estates
After studying Business Studies at University, I started my career in IT before moving into Estates and Facilities, and that’s when I realised I’d found the area I really enjoyed. I spent 20 years in a variety of roles with Staffordshire Police, working across the county and eventually at Police HQ in Stafford. Those years gave me a solid grounding in facilities management and everything that comes with looking after buildings and estates.
In 2019, I made the move into the education sector and haven’t looked back. Working in schools has given me the chance to be more creative in how I approach projects, from improving existing spaces to designing new ones. I enjoy collaborating with staff, students, and contractors to find practical solutions that not only work day‑to‑day but also help create inspiring learning environments. Being able to see the positive impact these spaces have on young people is a big part of what keeps me motivated.
Outside of work, I keep things simple – spending time with my family, keeping active, and getting out for a run. I’m a member of Trentham Running Club, so if I’m not in the office, there’s a good chance I’m on a trail or at a club run.
I joined Manor Hall Academy Trust as Head of People in September 2025. Prior to this I have held many HR / People related roles across all sectors, spanning the last 22 years. I love what I do, and I strive to help people to bring their very best selves to work each day. I particularly enjoy supporting leaders and people managers to create environments which are inclusive, nurturing, and supportive, but also where people can thrive and be really effective. Joining the Trust has meant that I have been able to combine my passion for people and leadership with my personal passion for helping children thrive and grow in such a way that they reach (and exceed) their potential. Outside of work I enjoy music, theatre and walking my beloved cockapoo, Marty!

Simon Griffiths
Trustee
I work part-time as a Director with the NHS. I support clinical teams to improve care for people across the country, for example improving the way older people are looked after in busy hospitals. I also work as an executive coach with senior NHS staff.
Previously I have worked as an executive director of strategy and operations for NHS Trusts in Derbyshire and London focusing on issues such as joined up services across health and social care for people with learning disabilities, and creating a culture for staff which meant our NHS Trust was ranked as one of the most likely to be recommended to friends and family by its staff.
As a non-executive, I have chaired a national charity providing supported living for older people and those with learning difficulties and mental health needs. We saw our quality ratings improve to 10% above the average for the sector. I was chair of governors at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (QEGS) in Ashbourne achieving an outstanding for leadership in our Ofsted inspection and taking the school to academy status.
I therefore knew immediately that I wanted to work with MHT as the Trust and the role bring together everything I have held dear in my professional life. This is embodied in its culture of inclusivity, respect and strong relationships, with children’s needs at its heart, so evident in our staff and children I meet.
I live near Ashbourne with my wife who is a former nurse and now law professor at Nottingham Law School. We have five adult children several of whom are Arsenal supporters, and when time permits, I am often to be found on long walks or cycle trips somewhere in the Derbyshire hills.

Sian Nixon
Procurement Officer
My journey with Manor Hall Academy Trust began in September 2022 when the school I was working at joined the Trust. In September 2026, I moved into the role of Procurement & Contracts Officer, supporting our schools to ensure we achieve best value from our contracts and suppliers.
Before joining the Trust team, I spent six years as a Bursar and Facilities Manager within a Pupil Referral Unit. My passion for education actually began much earlier, when I volunteered as a Parent Governor at my eldest son’s primary school. Inspired by the positive impact schools have on children and families, I made the move into school administration in 2017, working within a SEND school.
I am proud to be part of a team that makes a difference behind the scenes, helping to support the fantastic teachers, support staff and pupils across our Trust. Knowing that my work contributes to creating the best possible environment for children to learn and thrive is incredibly rewarding.
Outside of work, much of my time is spent cheering from the sidelines at football, rugby and cricket matches. As a family, we enjoy days at the beach with our dog, or relaxing at home watching films, eating plenty of popcorn and enjoying cuddles with our cat and bearded dragon.

A keen sportsman, Matthew now enjoys a game of golf at weekends and supporting the Welsh rugby team! Family is very important to Matthew. He is father to Sophie and Daniel who are the most precious things in his life.

My professional journey began with a degree in Law before completing the Law Society Final Examinations to qualify as a solicitor. I enjoyed a career as a Criminal Law Defence Solicitor for many years in private practice.

After a few years that school became part of Manor Hall Trust, and I moved into the role of HR and H&S Manager.
After ten years with that school, I was successful in securing the position of People Advisor within the Trust Central HR team. I love being part of a team and a Trust that creates a positive and inclusive workplace culture, ensuring employees are valued and can develop and grow.
