This Is My Place: Celebrating Belonging at Rocklands for Children’s Mental Health Week

During Children’s Mental Health Week (9–13 February 2026), Rocklands school delivered a comprehensive programme of events aligned with this year’s theme, “This is My Place,” with a strong focus on fostering belonging, inclusion, and positive mental wellbeing across our whole school community. Pupils participated in a wide range of enrichment activities, including Sing & Sign sessions, a whole‑school assembly facilitated by South Staffs MHST , and martial arts, kickboxing, and yoga workshops delivered by MAMA UK. Additional activities included themed stations across school, a sensory‑garden scavenger hunt, a mental‑health‑inspired orienteering challenge, and a collaborative art project involving all classes.

A dedicated “Belonging Hall” was set up throughout the week, offering a variety of purposeful and inclusive activities. These included a shopping role‑play area, painting station, fancy‑dress zone, a relaxation area with Mood Bears, sensory toys, kindness‑heart activities, an afternoon‑tea station, a play‑dough exploration table, and a brick‑building zone. Each activity was designed to encourage communication, cooperative play, and social interaction, ensuring full participation and accessibility for all learners.

To further promote teamwork and inclusion, we also delivered the Rocklands Challenge, which enabled every pupil to contribute meaningfully to the week’s events. The challenge incorporated a series of collaborative, hands‑on activities such as den building, jigsaw problem‑solving, group art painting, collage creation, bingo and orienteering. These tasks were designed to build communication, cooperation, and resilience, providing opportunities for all pupils to achieve success. All children received a certificate recognising their participation and achievements.

This programme created a supportive, inclusive environment where pupils were able to explore their sense of place, connection, and wellbeing while developing emotional literacy, confidence, and a deeper sense of belonging.
