Introducing Our New Head of Estates: Simon Bryan

We are delighted to welcome Simon Bryan to Manor Hall Trust as our new Head of Estates. Bringing a career shaped by practical problem‑solving, hands‑on experience and a genuine passion for creating enabling environments, Simon is already proving to be a fantastic addition to our central team.

A Career Built on Experience and Curiosity
Simon’s route into estates wasn’t a traditional one. After studying Business Studies at university, he began his career in IT before discovering that Estates and Facilities was where he truly belonged. In 2007, everything “clicked”, and he embarked on a 20‑year journey with Staffordshire Police.

During his time with the Police, Simon worked across the county – from Stafford to Hanley and Burton-on-Trent – eventually joining the team at Police HQ. These years gave him a solid foundation in facilities management, leadership, and understanding how well‑designed, well‑maintained spaces directly support people in their work.

Finding Purpose in Education
In 2019, Simon made the move into the education sector – a shift he describes as the most rewarding stage of his career so far. Working in schools has allowed him to blend the practical nature of estates management with creativity. Whether he’s improving existing spaces or helping to design new ones, Simon enjoys working with staff, students and contractors to create environments that make a genuine difference.

Seeing the direct impact that high‑quality, inclusive spaces have on young people and staff is what drives him. His approach is rooted in understanding each school’s unique character and finding solutions that help everyone feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

A Vision for Manor Hall Trust
As Head of Estates, Simon is committed to building an estates function that is proactive, supportive and aligned with the Trust’s values – a place where everyone Belongs, Learns and Grows.

His priorities include:

  • ensuring safe, efficient and inspiring spaces across all schools
  • creating environments that support learning, independence and confidence
  • strengthening long‑term estates planning to match the Trust’s ambitions
  • developing an approachable, partnership‑driven estates service

For Simon, estates work is not just behind‑the‑scenes support – it’s a collaborative effort that shapes the daily experiences of pupils and staff.

Looking Ahead
In the months ahead, Simon will be visiting every school across the Trust, learning more about their individual strengths, challenges and future plans. From large‑scale projects to small improvements that make a big difference, he is excited to help shape the next phase of the Trust’s growth.

Outside of Work
Simon enjoys spending time with his family and staying active. As a member of Trentham Running Club and a regular at Trentham Gardens Parkrun – with around 180 runs completed – he’s always up for a challenge. Last year he completed the Málaga and Lanzarote half marathons, and he enjoys socialising and travelling whenever possible.
